DESCRIPTION OF F138 STEEL BAR
316LVM F-138 is considered “medical stainless steel”. This stainless steel 316 vacuum arc remelt (VAR) achieves the very high purity and “cleanliness” required for surgical implants. It has excellent resistance to general and intergranular corrosion, pitting and crevice corrosion in a physiological environment.
The ASTM F138 specification indicates implant grade. It is mainly used for permanent implants. Compared with 300 series alloy grades, the reduced carbon content improves the corrosion resistance of 316LVM.
